Overview

APLA Health seeks a Medical Assistant – HIV/STD Counselor to provide integrated patient care and counseling. This role involves both clinical duties (vitals, phlebotomy, room preparation) and HIV/STD prevention services, including risk assessment, testing, and linking clients to care. The position requires a certified Medical Assistant who will also obtain HIV Test Counselor Certification.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Successful completion of a Medical Assistant training program recognized by the Medical Board of California.
• Must obtain LA County HIV Test Counselor Certification within the first 90 days of employment.
• Knowledge of HIV/STD prevention, medical terminology, and clinical procedures (phlebotomy, injections).
• Ability to provide risk-reduction counseling and maintain confidential patient information (HIPAA).
• COVID-19 vaccination and booster (or valid medical/religious exemption) is required.
